Many teens, young adults and families need extra support through the college process and determining which colleges are the best fit given their individual needs and goals. With Lighthouse Guidance, we provide the necessary support, structure and organization for each teen and young adult to find their path to success. Services in this area include, but are not limited to:

  • Guidance with the college application process from start to finish, including transfer applications 

  • Development of an appropriate college list based upon the fit between the student and the college

  • Insight into colleges that offer additional learning support programs

  • A holistic approach including the interaction between providers to create overarching framework to find success

  • A focus on supporting students with mental health concerns, physical disabilities, chronic health conditions, and more

  • Collaboration with Annie Tulkin of Accessible College to best meet student needs 

  • Expertise in the credit recovery process and those students going through an atypical path to completing their college degree

HELPING STUDENTS MINDFULLY NAVIGATE THE COLLEGE PROCESS 

The college process has shifted dramatically, particularly since 2020. The stress students feel is real and can impact their ability to function as the best versions of themselves in school, at home, and through the college application process. As a result, Lighthouse Guidance is offering a counseling group for juniors and seniors who are in the midst of the application process. This group will: 

​​

  • Meet weekly on Zoom for 45 minutes to cultivate positivity among members who are at a similar point in life

  • Provide students an outlet to release the stress they may feel 

  • Teach mindfulness techniques members can employ in between sessions

  • Allow access to a members-only Slack group where they can chat/share resources

Through one-on-one work with tutors, students are able to approach the testing process with increased confidence and demonstrate improved performance. Tutors are available in the following:

DEVELOPING SUCCESSFUL GAP YEAR PLANS FOR POST-HIGH SCHOOL

Lighthouse Guidance provides tailored gap year solutions, individualized for each student. This includes a comprehensive student evaluation, parent consultation, program research and recommendations, including the navigation of the deferral process. With a marked increase in the interest in gap year programming, Lighthouse Guidance has cultivated relationships with various programs and presented at the Gap Year Association conference last spring.
